Full text search

The search page for full text search enables you to search table-independent or without knowing anything about the data structure.

Search words

You should use words that describe the object(s) you are looking for as precisely as possible. By combining several search words by "AND", you can reduce the number of matches. If SW-Lookup® finds more than 100 matching documents (objects), it will display only 100 of them and give you a notice.

Explicit search for table names

If you want to restrict your search to a single table, simply select the one you want from the list of tables. Tables not listed there are not indexed and therefore, not searchable. You may ask your system administrator to add other tables to the index, so you may search them.

Please note that restricting the search to tables does only provide advantages if there are not too many entries for this table. Alternatively, use the table search!

Currently, no field names are indexed by default. This feature has been disabled because it does not provide much advantage and causes problems with large databases.

Use of wildcards

Wildcards allow to find words which begin with a certain phrase, or contain a certain phrase.

The wildcard "*" (asterisk) stands for any number of characters (or for none), the '?' stands for exactly one arbitrary character.

Please note that wildcards at the end of a search word will lower the speed of search only slightly, while wildcards at the beginning of a word can slow down searching a lot. If the search takes more than 90 seconds, SW-Lookup® might even restart the peerserver, resulting in a "NOT AVAILABLE" error (for a short period).
