What SW-Lookup® is...SW-Lookup® is a special Smallworld® GIS addonSW-Lookup® is only suitable for uses of Smallworld® GIS. Should you operate another GIS, we cannot help you - at least currently. This may change in future, but not soon. SW-Lookup® is a pure TCP/IP applicationSW-Lookup® uses the plain TCP/IP protocol for communication, in conjunction with HTTP or a similar protocol for the higher level communication. This choice has been done intentionally, in order to minimize the overhead and the number of error sources. TCP/IP has proofed to be a stable protocol for decades, the whole Internet is based on it. So why use anything else? SW-Lookup® is slimSW-Lookup® was developed from the beginning as an addon with special regard to performance and (small) size. SW-Lookup® uses an ACP coded in 'C' to provide the communication between the peerservers and the dispatcher, because this part of the system must be stable and fast. It uses JAVA for the dispatcher itself, since this should be able to run everywhere and coding is easier. And it uses MAGIK for the RWO-specific code which should easily be tailored to the customer's needs. SW-Lookup® is extendableSW-Lookup® makes use of the inherent Smallworld® intelligence for the RWO configuration. Smallworld® developers can tailor the presentation of the RWOs to their own needs. "Normal" users can provide one or more graphical representations for each RWO type by using an easy-to-use menu. SW-Lookup® is a platform for workflow applicationsDue to the simple extendability of SW-Lookup® and the easy access to the data, SW-Lookup® is very suitable for realising workflow applications based on GIS data. SW-Lookup® is the GIS advertising platform inside your company! One of the largest advantages of SW-Lookup® is the ablility to present GIS data all over your company in an easy way. This not only provides substantial use from the existing data, but also raises the GIS department's "right of existence". |
